Healing Clay?
Clay therapy is not a new concept, research indicates that throughout the ages therapeutic clay and mud have been used by cultures throughout the world. For example, traditional European hydrotherapy spas have long used mineral waters and clays in their medical programs. Clay products are still today readily available throughout Europe and many other parts of the world, where clay therapy has been practised continually for centuries in health spas and in the home. Australian Aboriginals use clay internally to treat gastro problems and externally as body paint for various sacred ceremonies, as well as for healing. Furthermore, clay applied topically helps protect skin from the harsh Australian climate.
Karma Karmelian takes great pride in sourcing only the cleanest and purest Australian active mineral clays and water. The clays are mostly of Queensland or Northern New South Wales origin and are mined using traditional methods and utilise natural sun drying processes. The clays and water have been thoroughly tested for quality mineral content, purity, effectiveness and sensitivity to the skin. First-Aid
First-aid care with mineral mud is easy and effective. Mud has many actions, for example it cleanses deeply and draws out toxic matter, while at the same time exfoliating dead skin cells. Mud is antiseptic, destroying harmful bacteria without attacking the surrounding healthy cells. Its regenerative qualities promote regrowth of healthy cells and minimises scarring. It has a soothing action on pain. Is stimulating, it brings oxygen-rich blood to the surface of the skin, helping heal injuries quickly. Research also indicates mud therapy reduces water retention around areas of tissue damage and speeds recovery after a major injury or surgery. Mud helps heal sores and ulcers and aid in the rebuilding of healthy tissues and cells. Where many other therapies don?t seem to work, try mud, you may be amazed at the results.
Poultices
Place a piece of gauze or cloth (or even paper towel), folded in two, using a wooden spoon spread an even layer of mud onto the prepared cloth ? thickness depending on the wound ? and place on area to be treated.
Compresses
To use as a compress soak a fine bandage in thin mud. Squeeze out the excess water. Wrap the soaked bandage around the injured area, not too tight, and cover it with another bandage. For even more relief try applying a layer of mud on top of the injury before applying the compress.
Abscess & Boils
Do not touch afflicted area as this may hinder the healing process, which relies on cleansing and purifying. Apply mud poultices, renewing them every 1-1/2 hours. A poultice helps pus eliminate through the outlet of the infection (boil or abscess). Once abscess has ?ripened? apply regular clay poultices. Do not cover with anything that does not let it ?breathe?. Continue mud applications, even when abscess or boil is well-emptied, to reduce/eliminate scarring.
Blemishes, Freckles, Spots and Warts
Treat warts, blemishes, blotches, age spots and sun spots with mud. Dab a small amount of mud onto each spot and the surrounding area. Repeat applications as often as possible. With time and a little effort blemishes will fade and, with perseverance, disappear.
Bumps and Sprains
Apply thick mud to the injury. When the mud dries rinse it off. Continue reapplying mud until the pain stops. If the injury is swollen, eg a sprained ankle or knee, apply mud compresses until the swelling goes down and the pain stops.
Cuts and Scratches
Apply fairly thick mud to small cuts, scratches, and any open wound. Rinse mud off when it is dry. Repeat the application as often as needed depending on the severity of the wound. Within a few days small cuts and open wounds will close-up but keep applying mud until healing is complete. As the wound heals the thickness of the mud can be reduced. To minimise scarring continue using mud until the last sign of injury has gone.
Sunburn
Mineral mud soothes burned skin, relieves pain, draws out the heat, diminishes redness and prevents blistering. The mud removes dead skin cells then repairs and rejuvenates the cells damaged by the sun, drawing out any impurities lying under the skin. Applying mud to the burned areas as soon as possible may assist in avoiding problems in the future like skin cancers and melanomas.
Apply thin mud to the whole sunburned area as soon as possible. When the mud dries rinse it off with cool water and repeat the application as often as needed to ease the pain and soothe the skin. You?ll find the mud will get hot as it draws out the heat. Apply it more thickly to very burned areas. Continue reapplying the mud until it no longer goes hot on the skin, it usually takes two or three treatments.
Minor Burns
Burns are treated in a similar way as sunburn. If the burn is very bad and the skin is broken don?t run it under running water as the skin may become even more damaged, soak it in a basin of cold water instead, then apply mineral mud using a poultice. Continue applying mud after the pain has gone to prevent scarring. Nasty burns have healed very quickly without blistering and scarring.
Headaches
Headaches, sinusitis, ear inflammations, persistent headaches ? treatment consists of applications of mud on the nape of the neck alternating with local poultices. For migraines, use poultices alternately on the nape of the neck and forehead. Mud applied to the nape is also beneficial for pineal and hypophiseal glands, as well as for thyroid problems.
Warm mud may work better on some headaches than cold mud. Mud works well on its own, however adding a few drops of essential lavender oil to the mud may also help.
If the headache is caused from neck problems continue mudding from the temples down the side of the face and neck and around to the back of the neck up to the hairline being sure to cover the tender area at the base of the skull. As you have so much area covered you might as well cover your face, too, then sit comfortably and relax. Relaxing the muscles in your face, neck and shoulders will help to soothe your headache and improve your posture. Once mud dries, rinse it off.
Itches and Stings
In tropical areas every insect bite and open wound has the potential to become a tropical ulcer. Applying mineral mud straight away stops the bite or wound from becoming infected in the first place. Furthermore, mud relieves the sting or itch from bites very quickly and eliminates scratching, another cause of infection. Dab mud onto bites and the surrounding areas straight away to stop itching and then leave mud on individual bites until they have completely healed to prevent infection.
Tick bites are a lot less painful when mud is applied as soon as the tick has been pulled out. The mud draws out the tick?s poison and stops any infection. The mud also brings instant relief to wasp stings. If you?ve been attacked by a swarm of wasps, cover the whole area with mud instead of looking for individual bites as it?s difficult to pinpoint each sting over a large area. Relief is rapid.
Rashes
Apply thin mud to heat rash, dermatitis and allergic skin reactions to relieve itching. Rinse off the mud with cool water when it dries. Repeat applications as long as needed.
Varicose Veins
Spread an even layer of thin mud over a large area of leg. Don?t use thick poultices as you may cause a heavy draining of toxic substances towards the mud. Light applications repeated as often as possible are best, but you will have to persevere with the treatment. Put on the mud whenever you have the time, even if it?s only for 10 or 15 minutes.
